Led by a gritty performance by Bella "Zucchini" Zagotta, the Bulldogs hung tough against a quality team from Lemont to take in important 3 of 6 possible IPL points with a 9-5 loss and a 9-9 tie.
The Bulldogs were down to only 9 players for their double header against Lemont on Monday and "Zucchini" Zagotta had serious back pain after an injury she sustained in the Fort Summer Blaze tourney over the weekend.
Despite the back pain, Zagotta led the team on offense going 3 for 4 at the plate over both games with three singles, 2 RBI's and 1 run scored. "Renado" Randles also had a great outing vs. Lemont with a .600 batting average, 4 stolen bases and 2 runs scored. Lundblad, Shouse, Reynolds and Hampton all contributed with 1 RBI each. The Bulldogs ran wild on the base paths with a total of 22 stolen bases with Katie "Duck" Schroeder leading the charge with 6. Gwen "Lightning" Shouse was tied for second with Randles each with 4 stolen bases.
Once again, Avery "Showtime" Lundblad shouldered the majority of the pitching load going 6 & 1/3 innings with 8 strike outs. Syd "Vicious" Schmitz pitched 3 & 1/3 innings with 2 strike outs. Elly "Squirrel" Reynolds and Haydin "Icepack" Hampton anchored the defense with 4 putouts each. Hampton also had 3 assists and 2 double plays. Hampton leads the team in double plays this season with 5.
The Bulldogs mounted a huge, late inning comeback in the 9-9 tie, scoring 6 runs in the top of the 5th, with 5 of them coming in a two out rally built on base hits by Randles and Hampton and aggressive base running.
