The Bulldogs travelled West to take on the Kaneville Orange Whips on Wednesday night. It was a perfect evening in a Field of Dreams setting capped off by a Bulldogs comeback win. Avery "Showtime" Lundblad exploded out of her early season slump going 3 for 4, with 2 RBI's and scoring 3 times against the Orange Whips on the road. Lundblad single-handedly contributed to over 60% of the 12U Bulldog offense in their 8-5 victory.
While "Showtime" lead the Bulldog offense, the Bulldog heavy hitters, Elly "Squirrel" Reynolds, Katie "Duck" Schroeder and Molly "Beebs" Giesen continued their steady contributions at the heart of the line up with the remaining 4 RBI's split between them; Reynolds (2), Schroeder and Giesen with 1 each.
The game started out a little rocky, with the Whips hitting a few squeakers to load the bases with no outs versus Sydney "Vicious" Schmitz in the 1st. Then the Whips big hitters came up, including Rae and Berlyn “Berbaloo” Ruh, whose big hits cleared the bases until they maxed out the run limit. Vicious settled down, scattering 1 run over the next 2 innings before Showtime came in to finish things off, shutting down the Orange Whips offense with 4 scoreless innings to end the game, giving up only 2 hits.
Bella "Zucchini" Zagotta lead the team defensively with 5 put outs, along with Reynolds, Shouse and Giesen who each registered three put outs with 0 errors as a group.
After a scoreless 4th inning, Batavia broke the tie game with another leadoff walk by Lightning, followed by more hard hit balls by Showtime and Duck, resulting in a two run lead going into the final two innings. Showtime held true to her nickname, and after the Whips Addy “Russell” Ruh led off the bottom of the 7th with a quality at bat and infield single, got a clutch double play on a soft liner to second base nabbed by Lightning. This was a true team effort.
