The 12U travel season kicked off with a really cool experience playing an indoor game in Dekalb against the Kishwaukee Valley Storm. Our Bulldogs fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 10-2 loss to a KV Storm team that already has several games under their belt.
Gwen "Speedy G" Shouse got the team started early and picked up where she left off in the fall by leading off with an infield single, ultimately scoring on Katie Schroeder's flawlessly executed sacrifice bunt. Unfortunately, things got off to a shaky start in the bottom of the first, with 4 errors that helped KV Storm produce 5 runs.
The Bulldog pitching rotation had a solid outing with each of Batavia's 5 pitchers getting 1 inning of work. Shouse, Lundblad, Seuss and Tratar all pitched scoreless innings in the middle of the game with Meghan "Doc" Seuss and Avery Lundblad both striking out the side. Gwen Shouse pitched well in her 12U pitching debut. Tratar and Schmitz both got a little roughed up in the first and last innings giving up 5 runs each.
The other highlights of the game included 3 strong innings at catcher from Katie "Duck" Schroeder, as well as contributions from Molly Geisen and Elly Reynolds. Elly "Squirrel" Reynolds provided some offensive spark late when she fired a rocket over the right fielders head and to the wall resulting in a triple. Reynolds scored on an error on the next play. Reynolds went a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate to lead the Bulldogs in hits.
